Miroslav Pelák
Miroslav Pelákis a Slovak artist based in Bardejov. He studied Painting at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he earned his degree.
Miroslav Pelák’s paintings explore social and political themes, blending modernist and realist styles in a way that feels both thoughtful and contemporary. His work often reflects on life in post-communist Eastern Europe, using art to question the stories we tell about history, identity, and progress.
Pelák’s figures are intentionally distorted—oversized and blocky—drawing inspiration from Cubism and old propaganda posters. These shapes aren’t just visual choices; they echo the influence of Soviet-era imagery that still lingers in daily life, especially in Slovakia, where Pelák is from.
